Volunteering at Downtown Soup Kitchen
So last week my Youth Advisory Board & I volunteered at the Downtown Soup Kitchen. When we got back, I had the girls sit down and reflect on their experience. We've been volunteering with different homelessness-focused projects because our next big event is to raise awareness about homelessness in our community.
This was my personal reflection - I went into it not realizing that the Soup Kitchen is run by a church group - that kind of caught me off guard, but it was still overall a very positive day:
This was the best part of my week. Interacting with new people makes me feel really great inside. I'm seeing that regardless of whether you do your kind deeds and share the love for the world and others you carry in your heart in the name of some higher power or just for yourself, what matters most is that you are out there doing it, living a life of compassion and sharing your fortune with those less fortunate.
The positivity I walk away from these experience with multiples throughout the day - hopefully having left a smile or a fond memory in the minds & hearts of those I've interacted with but also through the energy I will care with me in meeting others & familiar faces the rest of the day.
I am also very proud to be working with youth who are so open minded & engaged in their community.
